GUWAHATI: Facebook has honoured a 22-year-old boy from Manipur, Zonel Sougaijam for spotting a technical glitch in the recent update of WhatsApp, a popular messaging service owned by the social media giant.

The anomaly Zonel found lets users change voice call through the application into a video call, without the authorisation of the user on the other end. This feature violates the privacy policy.

Facebook thus decided to honour him by awarding him a cash award of $5000 (approximately INR 3,47,086) and by listing him in Facebook’s official “Hall of Fame” page, which currently has 96 names for the year 2019. He stands at 16th position in the list.
