Sweta Agarwal, a student of KC Das Commerce College was found dead on Monday under mysterious circumstances at a residence in Santipur.
The residence belongs to Radhe Shyam Agarwal, who is the father of Govind Singhal (alleged in the crime). Govind is also the victim’s friend and alleged boyfriend. The two also attended Chartered Accountancy (CA) coaching classes and worked together at a CA firm.
After the police and the forensic team conducted a preliminary examination, new evidence has come to light. The victim, whose body was burnt, also had bruise marks and blood stains on her body. “We have recovered blood stains on her body, which in burn cases is not likely,” said a Police source speaking to G Plus. Police sources added that Govind was reportedly pressurising Sweta to marry him or possibly wanted to get married to her. They added that Sweta went to Govind’s house and he had left her there with his mother and sister still in the house. Govind’s interrogation is currently underway at an undisclosed location. More details will be revealed after compete forensic and post mortem report.
The initial post mortem at Gauhati Medical College and Hospital revealed that the victim suffered 80% burn on her body and Govind’s mother and sister have also been taken into custody for questioning.

After the crime, several protests erupted across the city and the KC Das Commerce College Students’ and KC Das Commerce College Teachers’ Association have demanded justice from the police. On Wednesday, around 1200 students of KC Das Commerce College will organize a Candle Light march to protest against the heinous crime. Around 250 students also protested today outside Bharalu Police Station after which, Govind was shifted to Panbazar Police station.
The victim was found at House No. 119 on JP Agarwal Road, Santipur.
