18 CRPF Jawans Martyred in J&K Terror Attack; Death Toll Rising

GUWAHATI: At least 18 Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF) jawans were martyred and many others injured in a blast that happened in Jammu and Kashmir on Thursday, February 14. The blast was triggered by a group of militants who targeted two vehicles carrying CRPF jawans. The blast ripped through one bus and killed the jawans. The death toll for this incident is likely to go up.

A Jaish-e-Mohammed terrorist rammed an explosive-laden vehicle into the bus carrying the jawans, according to a PTI report. The vehicle belonged to 54 battalion of the CRPF. After the IED blast, the bus was nothing but pieces of iron and body parts were also seen strewn around the area.

CRPF (Operations) IG Zulfiqar Hassan said that there were 70 vehicles in the convoy and one of them came under attack and that it was on its way from Jammu to Srinagar. He also added that the J&K police have taken over the investigation into the terror attack.

The ANI have further quoted that there were around 2500 personnel in the convoy, according to CRPF DG, RR Bhatnagar.
