GUWAHATI: A total of 16 cases were registered across 13 districts in Assam for posting anti-national content on social media following the Pulwama attack which took the lives of over 40 CRPF jawans.

Two men each were convicted from the following districts. Hafixur Rahman (19) and Ahezuddin (35) from Darrang, Rahul Hussain and Jintu Khan from Bongaigaon and Ujjal Nath and Omar Faruque Abdullah from Morigaon.

One person each was convicted from the other ten districts. Shahanur Islam from Goalpara, Papri Banerjee from Guwahati, Anwar Hussain from Chirang, Prince Ajmal Hussain (17) from Sonipur, Rahul Tanti (23) from Lakhimpur, Diloar Hussain from Kamrup rural and Rangman Misong from Dehemaji.

It should be mentioned that a number of such cases have come to light after the Pulwama attack, which happened on February 14, wherein people are posting anti-national comments on social media such as Facebook. They are posting slogans including ‘Pakistan Zindabad’ and criticising the Indian Army openly. Strict action is being taken against this across the state.
