15 Degree Colleges, 10 Law Colleges to be Established in Assam

GUWAHATI: Construction of nine new women colleges are to be undertaken in Assam in the next 45 days. The same was announced in a press conference by state minister Himanta Biswa Sarma on 12th September. 


The colleges are to be constructed at Cachar, Karimganj, Hailakandi, Barpeta, Nagaon, Goalpara, Darrang, Bilasipara, and Golakganj areas of Assam. 


A sum of Rs. 303.3 crore has been approved by the state government for the same and the Detailed Project Reports (DPRs) have already been prepared.


Six more degree colleges are to constructed before 31st December. These are to be established as Sonitpur, Tinsukia, Majuli, Chirang, Udalguri, and Baska at the cost of Rs. 100 crores.


Further, ten law colleges will also be established in the state at Diphu, Dibrugarh, Tezpur, Silchar, North Lakhimpur, Rangia, Bilasipara, Tihu, Raha, and Jorhat, construction of which are to start prior to 31st December. 


Rs. 33 crore is the estimated cost of the law colleges.
