1000 Kms Of Embankments Constructed To Make Assam Flood-Free

GUWAHATI: While floods continue to haunt people every year during monsoon, Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma on Monday announced that 1,000 km long embankments have been constructed in the state.

Sarma announced that a total of 1,000 kilometres of embankments have been constructed to make Assam flood-free.

“In last 2 yrs, we have made significant progress to help achieve our promise of a flood-free Assam. 1,000 kms of embankments being constructed on a priority basis. ₹10,000 cr roadmap for strengthening river basins, prevent erosions & flood fighting materials” Sarma tweeted.  

The chief minister said while the 1,000 kms of embankments has been constructed on a priority basis, his government has drafted a ₹10,000 crore comprehensive roadmap for strengthening river basins, prevent erosions and flood fighting materials.

A Chief Minister also tweeted a video portraying the state’s initiative to protect the embankments. It was part of the celebrations of the completion of two years of Himanta Biswa Sarma’s government in Assam.

People were seen speaking (in the video) about the government’s initiative in erecting the structures along vulnerable stretches, and fortify Assam against the destructive forces of floods and safeguarding the lives and properties of its citizens.
