Zubeen Garg gets bail in minor assault case

GUWAHATI: The District and Sessions Judge’s court of Kamrup (Metro) has reduced the quantum of punishment to singing sensation Zubeen Garg and exempted him from jail term pertaining to a minor assault case that happened in 2013.

Zubeen was given relaxation from 3-months imprisonment and was told to pay a fine of Rs 20,000 to the victim. He was also directed to sign a bond of Rs 50,000 under The Probation of Offenders Act.

As per sources, the court exempted the quantum of punishment on the ground that Zubeen will not break any law in the next two years.

The incident in question took place on June 29, 2013, when Zubeen assaulted a 16-year-old boy near Zoo road Tinali. The boy was reportedly trying to shake hands with the singer.

But, according to Zubeen, he slapped the boy for smoking in front of him.

A case was registered against the singer in Geetanagar police station after the boy’s father, Arup Chandra Borbora, a senior advocate, lodged a complaint against him.
