GUWAHATI: A young man lost his life on the spot after a harrowing encounter with wild elephants in Assam's Golaghat district. The incident, which occurred in the remote Rongbong area within the Golaghat Forest Division, has once again underscored the persistent challenge of human-elephant conflicts in the region.

The incident occurred on Friday night when the victim, identified as Babu Kurmi, ventured out to confront a herd of marauding elephants that were causing chaos in the Rongbong vicinity.

Kurmi lost his life at the scene of the confrontation. Following the incident, the authorities swiftly responded to the situation, with forest officials and the police arriving at the location during the night itself.

The young man's body was subsequently transported to the Golaghat Civil Hospital for a post-mortem examination.

Frustration and despair have gripped the local farming community, and they are now seeking the government's intervention to devise effective measures to mitigate the menace posed by these wild elephants.

The repeated encounters between humans and elephants have posed serious challenges to both wildlife conservation and the safety of the local population.
