GUWAHATI: The Assam Cabinet, on October 27, announced a financial assistance programme to support the state’s historic Raas festivals.

This initiative includes a grant of ₹ 25,000 for each Raas Committee, promoting the growth and preservation of this unique cultural heritage.
The decision is expected to benefit approximately 2,000 live Raas festivals throughout Assam, which are celebrated with traditional performances rather than with idols.
Additionally, the Cabinet waived the requirement for fees previously charged for obtaining permission to hold Raas Mahotsavs.
However, Raas organised with idols will not receive this financial assistance.
