According to reports, the victim, Saurabh Rajput, was a Merchant Navy officer. He had married Muskaan Rastogi in 2016, but tensions arose after he quit his job to spend more time with her. The couple moved into a rented house and had a daughter in 2019. However, Saurabh later discovered Muskaan’s affair with his friend, Sahil Shukla.

Despite considering divorce, Saurabh reportedly stayed in the marriage for his daughter's sake and rejoined the Merchant Navy in 2023. On February 24, he had returned home for his daughter’s birthday, but on March 4, Muskaan and Sahil allegedly drugged, stabbed, and dismembered him before sealing his remains in a cement-filled drum.

To avoid suspicion, Muskaan told neighbours that Saurabh had gone on a trip. The couple even travelled to Manali, using Saurabh’s phone to post updates on social media. When he stopped responding, his family grew suspicious and filed a police complaint.

Meerut Police detained Muskaan and Sahil, who confessed to the crime. The drum was recovered, and a drill machine was used to extract the remains. Both accused are reportedly in custody for the time being and will be presented in court.

Muskaan’s parents have also condemned the crime and demanded the death penalty for their daughter.
