'Will Not Stop' Says 9-Year-Old Detained Climate Activist from Manipur

Manipur's Licypriya Kangujam has stated her resolve to continue fighting for climate change even after she was detained in front of the Parliament House. 


“I will not stop,” Kangujam told G Plus. 


The 9-year-old climate change activist from Manipur - Licypriya Kangujam was detained by the Delhi Police for protesting outside Parliament House. Kangujam was protesting against the rising air pollution levels in the Capital. 


"Today we failed but it will be written in the history of the World that nine years old kid detained by police in India for protesting against climate change," Licypriya Kangujam posted on Twitter. 


G Plus spoke to Kangujam who stated that the Ministry of Environment, Forest and Climate Change will submit a report within two days regarding the action to stop Delhi air pollution permanently. 


"The Member Secretary of Central Pollution Control Board, Ministry of Environment, Forest and Climate Change contacted me and I submitted a 13 point memorandum to him to convert into action," said Licypriya Kangujam.


On the course ahead, she stated that she will continue her protest at Parliament House of India. "They snatched my placard but I made the same one today to prepare for a protest again this week. I will not stop until I achieve my goals," added Licypriya Kangujam.


She further criticised the political class of the country for its apathy towards climate change. "Which MP has the guts to protest with me in New Delhi against the Delhi Air Pollution?" she tweeted.


Licypriya Kangujam is a child environmental activist from India. She is one of the youngest climate activists globally. She also addressed world leaders at the United Nations Climate Conference 2019 in Madrid, Spain asking them to take immediate climate actions.
