Waterlogging In Guwahati's Chandmari Disrupts Commuters

GUWAHATI: Waterlogging in the Chandmari area has caused significant disruption to daily commutes, leaving residents and commuters deeply frustrated. The issue arose after a flushing operation by the Guwahati Jal Board (GJB) following a three-day water supply shutdown.

Local roads and residential areas were inundated, forcing pedestrians to wade through ankle-deep water and causing traffic disruptions.

“It’s a nightmare commuting in these conditions. Such incidents are recurring, and we’re left to suffer,” said a resident who wished to remain anonymous.

The GJB has, however, clarified that the waterlogging is not due to a pipeline leakage. An official from the department explained, “We have installed additional valves and flushed out the dirt to ensure better water supply around the Geetanagar area. Due to this, the water flow exceeded capacity, causing temporary waterlogging.”

Despite the explanation, the waterlogging has raised questions about the GJB’s preparedness in handling such maintenance activities without disrupting daily life. Regular commuters have urged authorities to take proactive measures to prevent similar occurrences in the future.
