GUWAHATI: Guwahati Police finally arrested alleged trading scammer Dipankar Barman from Panaji, Goa, on Sunday, October 27.

The authorities managed to seize cash worth ₹27,06,750 from Barman’s residence in Goa, along with a cache of gold. Following the arrest, he will now be brought to Guwahati on a transit remand.



Assam Director General of Police (DGP) GP Singh shared the news on social media, stating, “Finally, Dipankar Burman (is) arrested in Goa. The run ends. Congratulations Team @GuwahatiPol.”

Barman, the founder of Guwahati-based DB Stock Broking, had allegedly defrauded thousands of investors, amassing around  ₹7,000 crore from clients in Assam and other cities, including Hyderabad and Bengaluru. The suspect had been on the run for the past three months.

The case is part of a larger crackdown on online trading scams in Assam, which surged in August. Several cases were transferred to the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI), which is now investigating 41 such cases in the state.

As of till date, over 65 individuals linked to similar scams have been apprehended, including Barman’s parents, Assamese actress Sumi Borah, and her husband, Tarkik Borah.
