We hit the streets of Guwahati to hear what the citizens have to say on safety of women in the city.
The responses were mixed- Some believe that Guwahati is safe, while others raised concerns about harassment and violence.
Many stressed the need for stricter laws to protect women. Some of them even blamed women's attire, but many women pushed back, emphasising that the problem lies with the mentality of harassers, not the woman’s way of dressing.
Recent incidents, including a girl being raped by 4-5 boys, have heightened fears. A young woman voiced her worries, saying stricter enforcement is needed to improve safety. The consensus is clear, more must be done to make Guwahati safe for woman.
