To avoid any kind of antisocial or infiltration acts by the ‘jihadis’, the Assam Police has proposed to divert at least three companies of the central forces from the law and order duties. The teams would be deployed along the international borders of Bangladesh and Bhutan. The move has been initiated as a security measure after the Assam Police headquarters received specific information about ‘Jihadi’ elements, and potential threats within Assam. The Assam Police for the first time has undertaken such security proposals to fight cross border terrorism. Reportedly, the Union Ministry of Home Affairs is also extending support to the move made by Assam Police. As part of the meticulously drafted exercise, these personnel would be strategically deployed in vulnerable areas and border outposts close to the international border once the decision gets the final nod. The three companies of the central forces are expected to be withdrawn from different districts where the law and order scenario is believed to be ‘under control’. Commenting on the initiative, one of the deployed personnel said, “There are inputs that some antisocial elements are trying to sneak peak into Assam, and the move has been initiated as a strict measure to prevent any such activities. The central forces, once detached from the law and order duties, will assist the border police and other security agencies which are already guarding the area.” (Image- File Photo)
