As DJ sat in the House gallery, Trump shared his story, revealing that he was diagnosed with a rare cancer in 2018 and was given only five months to live. However, DJ defied the odds, fighting the disease while holding on to his dream of becoming a police officer.
"The doctors gave him five months at most to live," Trump said at the session. "That was more than six years ago. Since that time, DJ and his dad have been on a quest to make his dream come true."
Announcing the surprise honour, Trump declared, "Tonight, DJ, we're going to do you the biggest honour of them all. I am asking our new Secret Service Director, Sean Curran, to officially make you an agent of the United States Secret Service."
The chamber erupted in applause, with both Republicans and Democrats standing in rare unity to celebrate DJ. His father, overcome with emotion, lifted him into the air as the House gallery chanted "DJ! DJ!"
Secret Service Director Sean Curran then approached the young boy, presenting him with an official badge. DJ, beaming with joy, hugged Curran as the cheers continued.
