GUWAHATI: In a recent review session, the Union Minister for Road Transport and Highways, Nitin Gadkari, assessed the advancements made in the Kaziranga Elevated Road project.

Taking to Twitter, the minister shared updates on the initiative aimed at constructing approximately 34 kilometres of elevated roads at specific locations identified by the Wildlife Institute of India.

These sites were chosen due to their significance as animal crossing areas.

The project also entails widening the at-grade road between these elevated sections, transforming it into a 4-lane highway stretching around 50 kilometres.

As per reports, the plan includes the construction of tunnels, covering an approximate distance of 3 kilometres.

In a bid to optimize costs, Gadkari instructed that the tunnel construction be treated as a separate project. He further suggested utilizing the debris and muck generated during the construction of these tunnels in the road works, effectively repurposing the materials.

Furthermore, the minister proposed the inclusion of viewing platforms along the elevated road.
These platforms would provide tourists with dedicated spots for wildlife observation, complete with facilities such as vehicle parking and kiosks.

This move aims to enhance the tourist experience by offering opportunities for wildlife watching in the vicinity of the elevated road.

The Kaziranga Elevated Road project holds immense importance for preserving the ecological balance in the region while promoting safe and efficient transportation.

With the minister's emphasis on cost optimisation and the integration of amenities for wildlife enthusiasts, this ambitious endeavour is expected to boost tourism and conservation efforts in the area.
