“#Cabinet approves development of greenfield high-speed corridor of 166.80 km (NH-6) from Mawlyngkhung (near Shillong) in Meghalaya to Panchgram (near Silchar) in #Assam on Hybrid Annuity Mode (HAM) at a total cost of Rs.22,864 cr,” Ojha posted on X.
The project is part of a broader infrastructure push in the North-East and will run along National Highway 6 (NH-6), as the greenfield corridor will stretch over a distance of 166.80 km. Of this, 22.00 km will fall within Assam, while the remaining 144.80 km will lie in Meghalaya. The corridor will link Panchgram, located near Silchar, to Mawlyngkhung, situated near Shillong.
The capital cost of the project has been estimated at ₹22,864 crore. According to the announcement, the new corridor will also connect with key transport routes including NH-27, NH-106, NH-206, and NH-37. It has been expected to provide smoother road connectivity to urban centres such as Guwahati, Shillong, and Silchar, in addition to remote locations like Diengpasoh, Ummulong, Phramer, Khlieriat, Ratachera, Umkiang, and Kalain.
The route is likely to ease traffic flow between Guwahati and Silchar. It will additionally enhance road connectivity to Tripura, Mizoram, Manipur, and the Barak Valley region of Assam.
