Assam Clinches Inaugural NE Little Masters Trophy

 

GUWAHATI: The 1st North East Little Masters Trophy (Under-14) concluded successfully on Wednesday, April 30, with Assam defeating Tripura by 47 runs in the final held at the ACA Cricket Academy Ground, Fulung, Amingaon. This tournament, organised by the Assam Cricket Association (ACA), aimed to foster grassroots cricket development across the northeastern states of India.

Assam, after winning the toss and electing to bat, posted a total of 186 for 8 in their allotted 40 overs. The innings was anchored by an unbeaten 37 from Priyam Kundu, with notable contributions from Tanveer Islam (35) and Anurag Bastia (18). Tripura's bowling attack was led by Subhajit Kuri (2/29) and Bihan Das (2/33).

In response, Tripura was bowled out for 139 in 36.5 overs. Abhoy Deb top-scored with 39, supported by Rihan Aktar (25) and Sriman Debnath (20). Assam's bowlers maintained consistent pressure, with Manash Pratim Barman taking 3 for 14, Ayush Pandey 3 for 37, and Mazidul Islam 2 for 17. Ayush Pandey was named Player of the Match for his effective bowling performance.

The closing ceremony was attended by cricket administrators, including BCCI Secretary Devajit Saikia, BCCI Apex Council Member Mamon Majumdar, ACA Secretary Tridib Konwar, Tournament Director Romen Dutta, ACA Treasurer Chiranjit Langthasa, and ACA Vice President Rajdeep Oja, along with representatives from the cricket associations of Meghalaya, Tripura, Manipur, Arunachal Pradesh, Nagaland, and Mizoram.

BCCI Secretary Devajit Saikia commended the ACA's initiative, stating that such tournaments are vital for nurturing young talent in the region. ACA Secretary Tridib Konwar expressed gratitude to the participating teams and stakeholders, emphasising the association's commitment to promoting cricket at the grassroots level in the Northeast.

The NE Little Masters Trophy featured eight teams from the northeastern states, playing a total of 12 matches between April 18 and 30. This tournament is part of the ACA's broader strategy to enhance cricket infrastructure and talent development in the region.

With the successful conclusion of this inaugural tournament, the ACA reaffirms its dedication to fostering young cricketing talent and strengthening the sport's foundation in Northeast India.
