Uncertainty Prevails Over Lockdown 4.0, Guidelines Awaited

GUWAHATI: India is set to enter the fourth phase of nationwide lockdown on May 18. However, no clear guidelines have yet been released by either the central or state government so far regarding the same.

Addressing the nation on May 12, Prime Minister Narendra Modi had said that state specific guidelines for lockdown 4.0 would be announced before May 18.

"Lockdown 4.0 will be new in all aspects," PM Modi had said. 

Yet, uncertainty prevails over the guidelines for lockdown 4.0 in Assam as top government officials remain tight-lipped.

"The existing guidelines will remain in force in the state until the union government issues new directives," stated Chief Minister of Assam Sarbananda Sonowal. 

In the same vein, Additional Director General of Police (Law and Order) GP Singh told G Plus, "The lockdown 4.0 guidelines for Assam are yet to be released."

The delay in the announcement has put the trading community especially under a cloud of uncertainty with no one being able to make concrete plans for tomorrow. 

Over the last week, Assam has witnessed a sudden spike in cases of coronavirus. Many areas have been marked as containment zones. 

As such, people of the state are awaiting further guidelines for the lockdown.
