ULFA Cadre Apprehended In Arunachal Pradesh

GUWAHATI: In a significant pre-Independence Day operation, a member of the banned United Liberation Front of Asom (Independent), commonly known as ULFA (I), was successfully captured by security forces in Arunachal Pradesh's Tirap district on Thursday.

The apprehension took place through the coordinated efforts of the Khonsa Battalion of the Assam Rifles and the Arunachal Pradesh Police. The joint operation carried out in the border village of Noglo within Tirap district is a notable breakthrough in curtailing the activities of the banned militant organisation.

According to reports, the operation unfolded swiftly as the security forces cordoned off the suspected area where the operative identified as Aparajit Nath, also known by the alias Pankaj Asom, had taken shelter. This well-executed surprise operation effectively thwarted any chance for the militant cadre to evade capture or offer resistance.

Initial investigations have revealed that the apprehended operative had become associated with the proscribed ULFA (I) faction last year. More importantly, recent findings suggest that he had managed to cross the Indo-Myanmar border to infiltrate into the state of Assam.

His alleged objective was to carry out subversive activities within the region, reports stated.
