GUWAHATI: Sleuths of the Directorate of Vigilance and Anti-Corruption (DVAC) have arrested two Assam government employees for their alleged involvement in a bribery scandal at the Lumding Development Block in Hojai district.

Official sources told GPlus that the vigilance and anti-corruption officials, acting on a specific tip-off, launched an operation on Wednesday which led to the capture of Suraj Bora, a computer operator at the Lumding Development Block office.

Bora was caught allegedly accepting a bribe on behalf of Prabhat Kalita, an accredited engineer associated with the development block.

The bribe was allegedly intended for the expedited release of payments against bills, the officials said.

It is alleged that Kalita not only demanded a bribe but also orchestrated the acceptance of the illicit payment through Suraj Bora, suggesting a coordinated effort in the corruption scheme.

The DVAC raiding team also managed to arrest Prabhat Kalita, the accredited engineer of Lumding Development Block for demanding bribe and accepting it through Suraj Bora, in conspiracy with him.”

Legal proceedings and further investigations have been initiated against the two persons, the official sources said. More details are awaited.
