GUWAHATI: In light of the improved flood situation, the Assam government has eased traffic curbs in the Kaziranga National Park area that were imposed earlier keeping in mind safety of the animals.
Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma took to X on Tuesday, July 16 to make the announcement.

Accordingly, light motor vehicles and buses will be permitted to travel normally through the Kaziranga section of the national highway, though they will be subject to speed restrictions. However, trucks will be allowed to move only in a convoy for safety reasons.
The decision comes after a careful assessment of the overall flood conditions, which have shown significant improvement, allowing for a partial relaxation of the previously imposed travel restrictions. The authorities have stated the importance of adhering to speed limits to ensure the safety of all travelers in the area.
The movement of trucks in convoys will be closely monitored to maintain order and prevent any disruption or accidents. This measure aims to facilitate the safe and efficient transport of goods while ensuring that the ongoing recovery efforts are not hindered.
Kaziranga witnessed an all-time high flood with the highest flood level (HFL) recorded at 87.47 metre on July 1 at Nematighat.
As of now, the flood waters have receded, but wild animals continue to migrate and cross between Kaziranga and the the Karbi Anglong hills.
As of July 15, 212 animals have lost their lives due to flood-related causes while 143 have been rescued.
Officials will continue to keep a close watch on the situation and make further adjustments as necessary. Travelers have been advised to stay updated on any new developments and follow the guidelines issued by the authorities.
