GUWAHATI: Guwahati police on Tuesday, March 4, imposed traffic restrictions in certain locations on National Highway 27 (NH-27) due to the ongoing construction of an RCC stormwater drain. The traffic regulations will be effective from March 5 until the completion of work.

According to the official notice, vehicular movement along the stretch will be restricted to ensure public safety, particularly for children, students, women, senior citizens, and differently-abled individuals. The regulation will also seek to facilitate the movement of emergency vehicles such as ambulances and fire tenders.
Vehicular movement between Tripura Gali to Basistha Chariali will be stopped from 5 AM. Similarly, vehicles coming from Khanapara towards Basistha Chariali will be diverted at Tripura Gali under the bridge point.
Additionally, vehicles plying from Khanapara towards Jayanagar Chariali have been advised to go through the service road of Basistha Flyover-Tripura Gali under bridge-Jayanagar Road. However, there will be no restriction on the Basistha Flyover.
The stormwater drain project, spanning from Koomber Tea Warehouse near Hindustan Tower to Basistha Chariali, has been executed to manage surface runoff from the Assam-Meghalaya border catchment area.
Authorities have advised commuters to follow the new traffic guidelines and use alternative routes to avoid congestion. The police have also assured continuous monitoring of the situation to minimise inconvenience to the public.
