Traffic Diversions In Place As Jorabat-Khanapara Stretch Of NH-27 Faces Heavy Congestion

GUWAHATI: Amid heavy congestion on the Khanapara-Jorabat stretch of National Highway 27, Guwahati Traffic Police issued an advisory outlining vehicle diversions and alternate routes on Wednesday, April 9. The congestion has intensified due to ongoing Pavement Quality Concrete (PQC) panel installation by the National Highways Authority of India (NHAI), which is being fast-tracked ahead of the monsoon.

The district administration has approved a series of diversions and movement restrictions for different categories of vehicles. Goods-carrying vehicles travelling towards Guwahati from Upper Assam are now being diverted at Kaliabor Tiniali and rerouted through the Sonitpur–Darrang–Baihata Chariali corridor to avoid the Jorabat bottleneck.

Additionally, time-specific entry restrictions have been imposed for goods vehicles entering Guwahati from Nagaon, Morigaon, and Meghalaya. These vehicles will only be allowed to access the city limits via NH-27 between 10 PM and 6 AM.

For light motor vehicles, the following specific alternative routes have been recommended:

1. Vehicles can take Digaru Point – proceed to Digaru Tiniali – then through Amsing Jorabat – reach Army Camp – and continue to Patharquarry.

2. From Digaru Point, vehicles may also divert to Digaru Tiniali – then to Chandrapur – continue to Panikhaiti – and enter Guwahati via Narengi.

3. Another route starts at Chamota – through Mayong – then to Chandrapur – Panikhaiti – and finally Narengi.

4. LMVs coming from Jagiroad can travel via Mayong – reach Chandrapur – proceed to Panikhaiti – and enter Guwahati through Narengi.

The advisory, issued with the approval of the relevant authorities, is intended to minimise delays, limit inconvenience to commuters, and assist NHAI in completing essential work without disruption.
