GUWAHATI: The Beharbari Intersection beneath the flyover has transformed into a hazardous zone following the vehicular movement in all directions.

The resulting congestion has left several vehicles stranded, prompting concerns about the safety of commuters.

Moreover, the absence of traffic police officials at the junction has raised concerns among residents and commuters alike.

The lack of oversight has aggravated the traffic chaos, leaving drivers to navigate the intersection without proper guidance.

Adding to the problem, the presence of a service road has introduced confusion into the traffic flow. The four-way movement, combined with the intricate layout at present, has become an uptick for potential road mishaps.

While speaking to GPlus, a commuter shared, "Although the flyover is functional, there are trucks plying below which makes it dangerous for small vehicles. Above all it is very confusing."

Another motorists expressed his concern saying, "As one side has turned into a service lane it gets more difficult. People often rant about taking the wrong side. But, no one can be blamed as it is actually a service lane. We need to be extra cautious while crossing. In addition there are e-rickshaws queued up for passengers."

Local authorities are now under pressure to reevaluate the traffic management strategy at Beharbari Intersection, implement necessary measures, and deploy traffic police to restore order and ensure the safety of road users.

An official from Basistha Traffic Police said, "The intersection was blocked for the last few days. But, as there are no turn abouts near by it was opened. We have forwarded a request to the higher officials about a traffic signal in that location. But, the process takes time. If the chaos continues we will have to barricade the intersection again."

"We usually deploy officials to navigate the traffic. But, it isn't possible all the time as they are shifted to another location whenever something big comes up," the police official added.

As completion of the entire highway flyover project is still not ascertained yet, the safety of the public is being compromised in this duration.
