GUWAHATI: As the number of COVID-19 positive cases rapidly approaches the 50,000 mark, various states of the country released data of 2,958 fresh cases registered in the last 24 hours.
The dreaded coronavirus pandemic has infected over 49,391 people in India; the total death toll stands at 1,694.
India currently has over 33,500 active cases of coronavirus. 14,182 people have recovered from the disease so far.
Mumbai continues to be the worst affected city with the maximum number of nearly 10,000 Covid-19 cases.

Apart from Mumbai, Gujarat continued to register a high number of cases.
Delhi’s count has crossed the 5,000 mark; meanwhile in Punjab, over 200 new cases brought the numbers up to 1,451.
The southern state of Tamil Nadu also saw a sudden spike in numbers as the total count of cases crossed 4,000.
Worldwide, over 3.6 million cases of the novel coronavirus have been recorded with at least 2,57,000 deaths reported from across the globe so far.
