The slain militant has been reportedly identified as Altaf Lalli, a key LeT figure. The encounter is part of an ongoing crackdown by security forces following the brutal killing of 26 civilians—mostly tourists—in the Pahalgam meadows on April 22. Authorities suspect the involvement of both Pakistani and local militants in the attack.
Acting on precise intelligence inputs, a joint team of the Indian Army and Jammu and Kashmir Police launched a search operation in Bandipora early Friday. The operation escalated quickly as terrorists were located and engaged, sparking a fierce exchange of gunfire.
Reports revealed that one of the terrorists had sustained injuries in the initial shootout. Meanwhile, two personnel from a senior officer's security detail were also wounded during the operation.
Security forces continue to maintain a high alert across the region as efforts to dismantle militant networks intensify.
