Special Director General of Police, Kula Saikia and Legal Advisor to CM, Santanu Bharali, in a press meet held in Guwahati today, announced that a special unit will be set up very soon to fight the rising cases of crime against women.
Senior police officials who were also present at the meeting suggested that the special unit should be led by a senior woman police officer of the state.
Chief Minister Sarbananda Sonowal will also write to Chief Justice of Guwahati High Court in this regard.
Assam Police in the meeting has also announced that people of the state can now report any crime against women by calling DGP, Assam Police Mukesh Sahay on 9435115404. The team will soon set a helpline number to report such cases, but until then, public of the region can directly get in touch with Mukesh Sahay.
Reiterating their efforts to provide security to the women of the region, Saikia said that no culprits involved in any sort of such crimes will be spared.
