GUWAHATI: The Tinsukia and Dibrugarh District Bus Owners Association has declared an indefinite suspension of bus services starting June 15 in response to the alleged imposition of excessive fines by the Tinsukia Traffic Police, as per reports.
This move has left commuters and long-distance travellers in a state of inconvenience and uncertainty.
In an official statement released to the media, members of the Bus Owners' Association expressed their discontent with the "irrelevant and forceful" fines levied on buses by the traffic police.
The association highlighted the hardships faced by bus employees who not only encounter frequent fines but also struggle to meet their monthly bus loan installments.
The key demand put forth by the association is the establishment of a consistent regulation for picking up passengers from the Assam State Transport Corporation station in Tinsukia, extending to the entire ATM road, reports stated.
Until the Tinsukia District Administration addresses this concern and formulates a unified policy, the indefinite suspension of bus services will persist, asserted the bus association members.
