GUWAHATI: While cricket enthusiasts across Guwahati were gearing up for a thrilling showdown between India and England, scheduled for September 30, tickets for the match on online and offline modes showed completely sold out.
But the story behind the ticket sales was completely opposite. The tickets for the India vs. England match were made available at a reasonable price range ranging from ₹200 to ₹1000, offering options catering to all kinds of fans. However, despite the wide range, many fans have found themselves out of luck, resorting to purchasing tickets through unofficial channels.
Rajkamal Dutta, a resident of Barasapara, shared his experience, stating, "I tried to purchase a ₹700 pass for the east stand ground floor, but unfortunately, before I could secure it, they were already sold out." This predicament led him to purchase the same ticket from another person at an inflated price of ₹1200.
Dutta further emphasized the disparities in ticket prices, remarking, "The inflated prices also vary significantly for the different ticket categories."
The match tickets were initially available on Bookmyshow and offline was available at a counter in Nehru Stadium in Guwahati but tickets were mostly sold out. The high demand and limited availability of tickets prompted people to take it to their social media in order to let others know about the availability.
But it wasn’t just the common people who were taking advantage of the situation. A few members of the Assam Cricket Association (ACA) were also found to be selling the tickets at an inflated rate through references.
One of the correspondents from GPlus covertly tried to procure a ticket from one of the members of ACA to confirm if the rumour was true. The correspondent was sold a ₹200 ticket for ₹500.
