Acting on a specific input, authorities intercepted a truck (Registration No. AS-01-MC-5315) at Lalmati and detained the driver for verification. The operation led to the unearthing of an illegal transport of government-subsidised fertiliser, being moved without proper documentation.

During questioning, the driver—identified as Sulaman Miya (33) failed to present any valid vehicle documents or transit permits for the cargo. Upon further interrogation, he admitted to illegally transporting government-subsidised urea and confessed to being involved in such activities on multiple occasions.

A physical inspection of the vehicle revealed 80 bags of Urea fertilizer marked under the “Pradhan Mantri Bhartiya Jana Urvarak Pariyojana”, indicating that the fertiliser was part of the government’s subsidised supply chain. Additionally, 10 bags of potatoes were found strategically placed, apparently used to conceal the illegal consignment.

Preliminary findings indicate that the consignment originated in Barpeta and was headed toward Meghalaya.

Authorities have taken the suspect into custody and initiated legal proceedings. Further investigations are underway.
