GUWAHATI: The President of India has granted approval to three criminal law bills aimed at revamping the country's justice system on December 25.

The official confirmation was made available on the Rashtrapati Bhavan website, though it is yet to be formally published in the Gazette of India, as per reports.

The three new Criminal Law bills - Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita, Bharatiya Nagarik Suraksha Sanhita, and Bharatiya Sakshya Adhiniyam are slated to replace the existing Indian Penal Code (IPC), Code of Criminal Procedure (CrPC), and Indian Evidence Act.

Originally introduced in the Lok Sabha on August 11 under the titles Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita, Bharatiya Nagarik Suraksha Sanhita, and Bharatiya Sakshya Bill, these bills reportedly underwent further scrutiny by a parliamentary committee led by Brij Lal. Subsequently, they received approval from the Lok Sabha on December 20 and were later endorsed by the Rajya Sabha on December 21.
