GUWAHATI: A suspected thief sustained bullet injuries after being shot by police at Hatigaon in Guwahati on Tuesday, January, 28. The suspect is identified as Jewel Khan, who had earlier allegedly snatched a woman's bag in Banphul Nagar.

Police intercepted Khan and opened fire when he attempted to flee. He was immediately taken to Gauhati Medical College and Hospital for treatment.
A senior police officer from Hatigaon police station told GPlus, "Jewel Khan has been linked to several cases of chain and vehicle theft. We were investigating a theft case in Banphul Nagar when we received information about Khan. During a raid on his residence, he managed to escape. However, our search operation led to his apprehension in Hatigaon. When confronted, he attempted to attack the officers and flee, prompting police to open fire."
