GUWAHATI: To ensure a comprehensive and impartial investigation into the circumstances surrounding the sudden death of a Post Graduate student, the Vice Chancellor of Tezpur University, Shambhu Nath Singh, has constituted a three-member committee to investigate the cause of this unfortunate incident.
The student was pursuing a Master of Science (M.Sc.) in the Department of Environmental Science and was a boarder of Saraighat CV Raman Men’s Hostel.
“The incident, which occurred on 22-06-2023 has deeply saddened the Tezpur University community and in order to ascertain the facts and to prevent such incidents in future, the University has taken the step to initiate a thorough investigation”, Shambhu Nath Singh said.
The three-member committee will examine the events leading up to the student’s death and identify potential areas for improvement. The Committee is expected to submit a report within thirty days.
The committee members are Dhanapati Deka, Convenor (of the Committee) and former Dean, Students Welfare, B.K Danta of the Department of English and Madhurima Goswami, Head, Chandraprabha Saikiani Centre for Women Studies.
The institution will take appropriate actions based on the committee’s findings and recommendations to prevent such incidents in the future.
The student was found dead in his room on the morning of June 22.
