GUWAHATI: A teenage girl lost her life in a wild elephant attack in Dumruguri, Mainaguri village, under the Kachugaon Forest Division in Assa on the night of Sunday, February 23.
The victim, identified as Phungja Musahari, was a student and the daughter of Swapan Musahari. The elephant fatally attacked her, resulting in her death on the spot.
Talking to GPlus, a police official from Kachugaon said, “It is saddening more so because she was young and studying higher secondary. The incident occurred late at night.”
The incident has intensified concerns among villagers about the rising cases of human-elephant conflict in the region. Residents claim that despite the increasing threat, authorities have yet to implement effective measures to curb such incidents. Many believe that Raimona National Park, from where elephants frequently stray in search of food, needs enhanced security and preventive strategies to protect both human lives and wildlife.
