GUWAHATI: To encourage the adoption of electric vehicles (EVs) and promote environmental sustainability in Assam, the State Cabinet, during its meeting on November 16, declared a 2% point reduction on the existing tax rate for Motor Vehicle Tax (non-transport) applicable to citizens purchasing EVs.
Effective from the date of notification until March 31, 2025, this tax rebate is expected to incentivize the transition to cleaner and greener transportation options.
As part of the initiative, citizens purchasing EVs during this period will benefit from a reduced tax rate. For instance, the tax on EVs with a cost ranging between ₹10 lakh to ₹20 lakh will be lowered to 8%, down from the prevailing 10%. This progressive step aligns with sustainable practices and reflects the dedication to fostering a greener and cleaner future.
