Suspended APSC member Basanta Doley arrested for altering and enhancing marks

GUWAHATI: The Bhangagarh police on Thursday arrested suspended Assam Public Service Commission (APSC) member, Basanta Doley for allegedly altering and enhancing marks for candidates, who had appeared for the post of Agriculture Development Officer (ADO) in 2014. He will be produced before the Special Court, Assam, today.

A case was registered under Sections 120(B) (criminal conspiracy), 420 (cheating) and 468 (forgery for purpose of cheating) of the IPC and Sections 13(1)(A)(D) (iii) and 13(2) of the Prevention of Corruption Act, 1988.

Sources have revealed that forensic reports have confirmed tampering of 27 optical mark recognition (OMR) sheets of candidates. These candidates have appeared for the ADO examination in 2014. The reports revealed that Doley had used his power to change the marks for the benefit of the candidates who had secured the jobs by paying cash.

Doley was arrested for the second time in connection with the cash-for-job scam. He was currently out on bail after being arrested by the Dibrugarh police in Novemeber 2016, for alleged anomalies in selection of Assam Civil Service, Assam Police Service and allied services officers.

The arrest was made after an FIR was lodged by one Bedanta Bikash Das, where he reported that an amount of Rs 15 lakh was demanded from him for the ADO post.
