Suspected Ganja Worth Over ₹80 Thousand Seized In Guwahati

GUWAHATI: In a joint operation conducted by the Railway Protection Force (RPF), along with a team from the Government Railway Police (GRP), a consignment of suspected ganja was seized at the Kamakhya Railway Station in Guwahati on Sunday.

An operation was being carried out against trafficking, rescuing children, and smuggling of illegal contraband and anti-social elements, on Platform No. 4 of Kamakhya Railway Station at around 2 PM.

During the operation, the team observed a person attempting to board coach no B/8 of Train no 15658 Dn (BP.Mail), which was stationed at Platform No 4 en route from Kamakhya to Delhi.

Finding the individual's actions suspicious, he was detained for further investigation.

The person identified himself as Hira Mahto, a 61-year-old resident of Gulmahiya Chak, Sabalpur, Patna, Bihar.

Mahto stated that he had arrived at Kamakhya Railway Station from Lumding and was bound for Patna.

Upon inspecting two backpacks in his possession, authorities discovered four packets, two in each bag, containing a substance suspected to be ganja, wrapped in brown plastic.

Despite inquiries, Mahto failed to provide any valid documentation or satisfactory explanation regarding the possession of the suspected ganja.

Consequently, at approximately 2:45  PM, Sub-Inspector M. Ekka of the RPF took Mahto into custody, and the seized ganja, weighing approximately 8.380 kilograms, was confiscated.

The seizure was documented with a detailed list in the presence of witnesses and transported to the RPF/Post at the Kamakhya Railway Station.

The detained individual, along with the seized items, was handed over to the custody of Assistant Sub-Inspector Bibungsar Daimari and the GRP, Kamakhya Railway Station team for legal action in accordance with the applicable laws.

The estimated value of the recovered ganja has been determined to be ₹83,800.
