Surendra Kumar IGP (CID) Awarded The Changemaker Award

GUWAHATI: Surendra Kumar IGP (CID) Assam was conferred with the Changemaker Award by Save the Children in New Delhi during The Right Start Summit at the India Habitat Centre on Monday.

Union Minister for Women and Child Development and Textile, Smriti Irani, was the chief guest for the occasion which was attended by  child champions and eminent personalities  devoted to the cause of children.

The honour conferred to Kumar is in recognition of significant contribution made by him in the field of child rights and child protection. Save the Children is a multi-national NGO of repute which has been working in 120 countries.

It should be mentioned that Kumar has also authored a book titled Role of Duty Bearers in Child Protection published by the National Law University and Judicial Academy with support from UNICEF. The book which was formally launched recently by Assam CM Sarbananda Sonowal, prominently covers various aspects of child trafficking. The book has been empowering police officers and functionaries of other departments with knowledge for effectively responding to the menace of human trafficking which constitutes violation of human rights in worst ways.

IPS Surendra Kumar also received the FICCI SMART Policing Award on August 23 this year for anti-trafficking initiatives of Assam police.
