GUWAHATI: In a recent development, Assam Education Minister Ranoj Pegu in a press conference informed that there has been a decline in student enrolment in schools.
The total number of students in all government, provincialized, private, and Non-private schools across Assam has decreased by over 44,9197 according to official data.
The education department has recently collated the enrolment figures of all students and found that the total number has decreased.
In the press conference, he stated that the grand total of students in government, aided, tea garden managed and venture schools have decreased to 7095759 from 754496 in comparison to the previous year 2021-22.
The figures showed a decrease of 449197 students, where government schools.
Out of this, the decline has been witnessed in non-private schools with 131228, drops by 16.15%.
Following that, a decline of 12.07% was recorded in private schools.
The enrolment of government or provincialised schools reduced by 5011634 from 5137047 which declined by 2.44%.
However, taking to Twitter, Assam education minister Ranoj Pegu confirmed that this decline is not due to dropout.
The minister added that the student's enrolment declined as several students took admission to other private schools which didn’t have/are not registered in UDISE.
He further added that the reason for the decline in enrolment is the migration of students from one place to another without being removed from the previous database.
