Cyclone Remal Wreaks Havoc in Guwahati, Damages Light Posts, Uproots Trees

GUWAHATI: A severe storm as a result of cyclone Remal swept through Guwahati, causing significant damage across the city. According to officials, at least 25 light posts were damaged due to the strong winds and heavy rain. 

The Assam Power Distribution Company Limited (APDCL) reported the damage, indicating that repairs are underway to restore normalcy. "At least 25 light posts were damaged due to the storm," a senior APDCL official told GPlus.

The storm also caused extensive damage to the city's green cover. The Kamrup Metro Forest Department confirmed that more than 34 trees were uprooted across various beats in the Guwahati Range. The breakdown of fallen trees is as follows: 


Fatasil Beat: 4 trees
Khanamukh Beat: 5 trees
Narengi Beat: 8 trees
Kalapahar: 8 trees 
Hengrabari: 2 trees
Panjabari: 2 trees
Chandrapur: 5 trees 

The fallen trees have been reported from multiple locations in the city, including: Panbazar, Narakashur Pahar, Bhangagarh, Panikhaiti, Amsing, Jorabat, Silapagram, Khanapara, VIP Road, Chandrapur, Kalapahar, Dispur Secretariat, Jyotikuchi Timber, Rehabari, Cotton College Road, Nabajyotinagar and Panjabari. 

The city administration is actively working to clear the fallen trees and repair the damaged infrastructure. Joint efforts are being made by DDMA, SDRF, GMC, Forest Police, APDCL and local people to restore power and ensure that transportation routes are accessible.
