STF Assam Arrests Key Extremist Operative In Chennai Under Operation PRAGHAT

GUWAHATI: The Special Task Force (STF), Assam, on Wednesday, February 12, arrested one Abu Salam Ali in Chennai, an alleged operative of the Ansarullah Bangla Team (ABT) and Jamaat-ul-Mujahideen. The development follows the STF's earlier action under Operation PRAGHAT, where 15 arrests have been made so far.

Ali, son of Kuddus Ali from Khudigaon Part-II, Bilasipara, Dhubri, was apprehended under the jurisdiction of Semmencherry Police Station. He had been evading law enforcement since December 17, 2024, and was allegedly involved in extremist activities, with links to previously arrested operatives from Kokrajhar and Dhubri.

According to investigations, Ali also played a crucial role in a conspiracy alongside Nur Islam Mandal and Shahinur Islam to strengthen extremist factions, posing a threat to national security. His arrest is seen as a major success in disrupting networks attempting to spread unrest in the country.

Ali has been booked under multiple charges, including Sections 61(2)/147/148/149 of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS), various provisions of the Unlawful Activities (Prevention) Act, 1967, the Passport Act, the Explosive Act, the Arms Act, and the Foreigners Act.

The operation was led by Satyendra Singh Hazari under the guidance of Inspector-General of Police (IGP) STF Parthasarathi Mahanta. The arrest was carried out in collaboration with Andhra Pradesh and Tamil Nadu police.
