State Health Ministry Recommends 1 More Week of Lockdown in Guwahati

GUWAHATI: Assam State Health and Finance Minister, Himanta Biswa Sarma said that after due consultation with the the Nagrik committee, Kamrup (M) district Administration and Health Department suggestion was made for 2 weeks lockdown by the Nagrik committee.

However, the minister said that the health department has forwarded a one week lockdown recommendation to the Assam Chief Secretary.

"We don't want 2 weeks lockdown but later we would respectively ease the norm in the fourth week, " the minister added.

Himanta Biswa said that the decision will be taken by the Chief Secretary and will we announced on July 12 after consultation with the stake holders of the state.

Earlier, the entire Kamrup district was under complete lockdown from June 28 Midnight for 14 days which is was suppose to end by July 12.

Currently 5650 active cases are reported in Assam and till now 35 deaths have been reported. Meanwhile, the state has conducted 525485 test for COVID-19.
