Soon, You Can Use FASTag for Buying Petrol, Paying Parking Fees

To encourage vehicle owners to use FASTag, the Central government is planning to add more features to it.

The Union Ministry of Road Transportation and Highways recently mandated the Radio Frequency Identification tag for cashless payments as it ruled FASTag as a mandatory option for those who wish to cross state borders.

Reportedly, the Ministry of Road and Transport is working towards making FASTag a multipurpose transaction model.

FASTag has enabled cashless transactions at toll gates across the country with effect from February 16. It enables commuters to seamlessly drive through toll plazas without having to stop for lengthy transactions. The pilot project to use FASTag for payment of parking fees and buying petrol has started at Hyderabad, Bangalore airports. If successful, the next phase of the project has been lined up for Delhi Airport and Connaught Place.

What is FASTag?

FASTag is a device for making toll payments directly from the prepaid account linked to it. FASTag is employed by Radio Frequency Identification (RFID) technology. The RFID based sticker affixed on a car will pay toll money digitally enabling divers to pass through toll gates, without having to stop for lengthy cash transactions.
