Sonia Gandhi Elected To Rajya Sabha Unopposed 

 

GUWAHATI: Senior Congress leader Sonia Gandhi has been elected unopposed to the Rajya Sabha from Rajasthan, marking her first tenure in the Upper House after serving six consecutive terms in the Lok Sabha. This development follows Gandhi's decision not to contest the forthcoming Lok Sabha polls, citing advancing age and health concerns.

Gandhi, who previously represented Rae Bareli in the Lok Sabha, expressed her gratitude and emotional connection to the people of the constituency in a heartfelt note. In her message, she conveyed her inability to contest the upcoming Lok Sabha elections due to health reasons, stating that she would not have the opportunity to serve the people directly thereafter, reports stated.

Gandhi acknowledged the support of the people of Rae Bareli during the past two elections, expressing pride in their steadfastness and loyalty. She emphasized the deep bond she shares with the people of Rae Bareli, expressing her gratitude for the enduring relationship she inherited from her in-laws' household.
