GUWAHATI: Sonam Wangchuk will be conferred with the 20th edition of the Bodofa Upendra Nath Brahma Soldier of Humanity Award, 2023 in Kokrajhar.
The award will be given under Upendra Nath Brahma Trust whose jury board lauded Wangchuk for his contributions to nation-building across various dimensions, reports stated.
His commendable work in government school reforms within the education sector, as well as initiatives like designing and overseeing the construction of passive solar mud buildings in mountain regions, earned him praise and recognition nationwide.
Born on September 1, 1966, near Alchi in the Leh district of Ladakh, Wangchuk holds a B.Tech in Mechanical Engineering from the National Institute of Technology, Srinagar. He has received numerous prestigious awards, including the Governor’s Medal for educational reform in Jammu and Kashmir in 1996, the Green Teacher Award by Sanctuary Asia in 2004, and the Global Award for Sustainable Architecture in 2017, among others.
The award will be presented to Wangchuk on December 23 in Kokrajhar during a day-long ceremony attended by distinguished guests. Subung Basumatary, Chairman of UNBT, invited intellectuals, scholars, writers, activists, and interested individuals to participate in the award-giving ceremony. The award includes a memento, a cash award of ₹2 lakh, a citation, an indigenous waistcoat, and an Aronai.
