Social Science, Assamese books to be revised

Social Science and Assamese language textbooks for Class IX and X in state-board affiliated schools will be revised before the new academic session with feedback from the public.

The Board of Secondary Education, Assam (SEBA) has sought public opinion in this regard as the board has worked out reform plans to make the textbooks of the two major subjects more accurate.

"The prime objective behind seeking public opinion is to make the textbooks error-free before the next academic session. Seba wants to ensure 100% accuracy in the textbooks as far as course content is concerned. We want to know the opinion of the public," said Seba Secretary Kamal Jyoti Gogoi.

The thrust will be on reviewing the textbooks in a local context. While the text books for the rest of the subjects taught in state-board affiliated schools have been adopted directly from NCERT textbooks, the Social Science and Assamese textbooks emphasize subjects pertaining to Assam besides having other focus areas. "We want to reform the textbooks in view of the changing times," Gogoi added. SEBA has already convened several workshops seeking opinion from experts on the matter.
