Acting on information received from reliable sources, a team led by Kapil Pathak launched an operation at Goli Road, close to the stadium gate, where they intercepted the vehicle. Inside the car, the team found six men actively involved in online and offline gambling using illegal betting applications.

The accused have been identified as Munwar Hassan (27) of Hatigaon, Sukur Ali Ahmed (40), Partha Pratim Das alias Moon (31), Lutfar Rahman (40), Mokbur Hussain (36), and Abdullah Ali Faruk (22), all hailing from different parts of Barpeta district.

During the operation, several items were seized from their possession, including mobile phones of various brands, cash amounting to several thousand rupees, ATM cards, Aadhaar and PAN cards, a duplicate voter ID, and a duplicate driving licence. The vehicle used by the group was also seized.

A preliminary inquiry revealed that the men were using illegal betting apps for gambling and were routing money through both personal and mule accounts. Investigators suspect that the accused lured unsuspecting people into sharing their bank account details under false pretences, allowing the gang to circulate large sums of money from unlawful activities.

The police are continuing their investigation to trace the wider network and financial trail linked to the case.
