GUWAHATI: Guwahati Police arrested six individuals for posting a video on Instagram showing cow slaughter. The video, which sparked outrage, led to the registration of a case under the Assam Cattle Preservation Act, 2021, at Hatigaon Police Station.

The arrested individuals are:
* Sahil Khan (20), son of Surman Khan
* Hafizur Islam (19), son of Nur Husain
* Rokibul Husain (20), son of Atawar Rahman
* Sahidul Islam (30), son of Azmal Haque
* Izaz Khan (26), son of Surman Khan
* Jahidul Islam (24), son of Kadam Ali
All six hail from Asalpara village in Kamrup district.
Talking to GPlus, a senior police official from Guwahati said, “The arrests were made following a complaint lodged at Hatigaon Police Station. Such acts not only violate the law, but also disrupt public harmony,”
A case (No. 10/25) has been registered at the Hatigaon Police Station invoking sections of the Assam Cattle Preservation Act, 2021, and other relevant laws. Police have assured that strict action will be taken against individuals engaging in similar activities.
Further investigation is underway.
In December last year, the Assam Cabinet approved an amendment to the relevant laws prohibiting public consumption of beef across the state, including a ban on serving beef in hotels, restaurants, and social gatherings.
